C-DAC launches nationwide PKI awareness programme

A symposium on Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) was organized by C-DAC, Electronics City, Bengaluru at a function at C-DAC, Electronics City, Bengaluru centre today the 29th August 2008. It is the first of a series of seminars to be held at six cities in the first six months under the banner 'PKI outreach programme (POP)' to create awareness on the important current topic of PKI, central to secure E-commerce, E-Governance and other activities of internet. Shri. S Ramakrishnan, Director General, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) inaugurated the programme widely attended by top offiicers from various government departments, police & fire forces, industries, banking & financial institutions, professionals and academia.
 
The objective of the national launch on PKI is to create wide scale awareness among various user communities across all segments, under the auspices of the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA), Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Government of India. The Programme had overwhelming participation and hence repetition of the same will be conducted in Bengaluru during 5th September 2008.
 
Under this, C-DAC shall offer three types of programmes - one day symposia, two day workshops and three day training programmes, across the country during the next two years. These programmes are targeted to provide insight into the PKI for adapting secure communications over the cyberspace on applications on e-governance, online transactions, E-commerce, etc.
 
During the inaugural address, Shri. Ramakrishnan noted, "Given the rapid spread of internet in the country and the vulnerabilities of the users, it is important for India to develop the eco-system for building secure E-Commerce. The broad- band revolution and next generation mobile revolution driven by 3-G will fuel growth in this segment and putting together PKI has to go hand-in-hand with broad-based participation and awareness to ensure safe and exponential growth. By conducting this pioneering series, C-DAC has been given an important technology as well as promotional role".
 
The message from the CCA says, "As a regulatory and statutory body set up under Section 17 of IT Act, 2000, we are committed to ensure rapid growth of secure e-commerce, e-governance and other aspects of Internet Economy. This program conducted by C-DAC is particularly pleasing to us".
 
C-DAC Electronics City, Bengaluru is pursuing research and development in the areas of intrusion detection & prevention, network security, language technology and software technologies. C-DAC pursues R&D in Cyber forensics, Crypt-analysis, stenography and end-system security at various labs located across the country.
